Sultan bin Ahmed witnesses signing agreement to establish GCAA chair at UoS

SHARJAH, 6th June, 2022 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of University of Sharjah (UoS), witnessed on Monday at his office at the university, the signing of the agreement to establish chair at UoS in the name of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

The agreement was signed between Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, and Prof. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Director of UoS.

The agreement provides support for scientific research and development in the field of civil aviation through supporting research projects agreed upon by the two parties in the fields of civil aviation, including electronic security, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of things and blockchain, aviation medicine, aviation-related environmental protection and other areas of research and studies in law, humanities and social sciences, unmanned aerial vehicle traffic management and logistics.

It also provides support for recruiting international experts from outside the country to conduct and support studies and scientific research and organise seminars and scientific forums, providing technical or legal advice, whether through students or through the faculty; as well as providing research grants for master’s and doctoral students in related subjects according to university regulations.

The agreement supports financing of the development of postgraduate programmes at the university, such as air and space law with the College of Law, aeronautical engineering with the College of Engineering, and aviation medicine with the College of Medicine, in addition to the establishment of a classified periodical magazine to publish research and articles periodically and in the fields of specialisation.

The meeting dealt with topics related to the scientific and research aspect in order to enhance relations between the UoS and the GCCA to contribute to the advancement of various aspects by using studies and research and qualifying specialised cadres.

The signing of the agreement was attended by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, a number of members of the Board of Trustees of the UoS, as well as senior officials from both parties.
