Suhail Al Mazrouei opens PAR 2022 in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 1st June, 2022 (WAM) — Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, inaugurated today the 7th Edition of Port Authorities Roundtable (PAR 2022) in Abu Dhabi.

The event is hosted by AD Ports Group, under the theme “Reimagining a New Era of Trade Together”. Global port authorities from 13 countries convened for the first time in the Middle East to exchange best practices, discuss issues of common interest and build mutually beneficial collaboration for today’s evolving maritime landscape.

The event is taking place at a crucial time for the ports and shipping sectors, as concerns grow over cargo backlogs in Asia that could potentially have major downstream effects for global supply chains.

At the event, the UAE delegation was joined by high-level representatives from global ports including Antwerp, Barcelona, Busan, Guangzhou, Iraq, Kobe, Oman, Rotterdam, Saudi Arabia, Seattle, Singapore and Shanghai.

Among the key topics examined in the closed-door event were ports’ efforts to build a robust infrastructure to mitigate the impact of climate change and rising sea levels, as well as new initiatives to boost efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

The event saw opening addresses from Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Quah Ley Hoon, CEO, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore; Omar Talal Hariri, President, Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI); and Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO, AD Ports Group.

Sessions at the Port Authorities Roundtable focused on the broad sub-themes of Disruption, Digitalisation, Decarbonisation, and Diversification, with specialist presentations and in-depth discussions with international experts.
