Sudanese diplomat accused of raping a NYC neighbour escapes

A Sudanese ambassador who slipped out of detention after being accused of forcefully raping a neighbour in New York City because he claimed diplomatic immunity is the subject of growing rage and intrigue.

On Sunday, 46-year-old Charles Dickens Imene Oliha was detained on grounds that he may have raped a nearby Fort George resident.

Police were informed by the victim that he followed her to her apartment, pushed his way inside, held her against a wall, and then sexually assaulted her twice, the first time using a condom and the second time without.

The lady phoned the police that night at 11 p.m. after the incident, which occurred at lunchtime. Oliha was detained but then freed at 5 a.m. on Monday after claiming the NYPD he had diplomatic immunity, which they seemed to confirm.

He hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Only female relatives who have so far refused to remark are present at his house today.

Furthermore, the State Department won’t confirm if he is still in the nation.

‘We are aware of the event cited involving a diplomat accredited to the United Nations,’ a spokeswoman told DailyMail.com on Tuesday.

We take these claims seriously, and as with all legal and criminal investigations involving foreign diplomats stationed at Permanent Missions and Observer Offices at the UN, we are collaborating closely with the New York Police Department and the Mayor’s Office of International Affairs.

They refused to say whether the NYPD had checked his status with them beforehand or if they intended to cancel it to see the case through.

He will need to be extradited if he has left the country.

As we do in all legal and criminal cases involving foreign diplomats appointed to Permanent Missions and Observer Offices at the UN, we take these allegations seriously and are collaborating closely with the New York Police Department and the Mayor’s Office of International Affairs.

Among those who expressed their outrage at the scandal was Mayor Eric Adams, who said that “sexual assault of any type would not be condoned.”

Both the UN and the Sudanese Embassy in New York City have not yet made any comments.

The Women’s Equal Justice project’s director and former sex crimes prosecutor is Jane Manning.

It’s extremely unsettling that a person accused of rape cannot be held accountable, regardless of the circumstances.

I’m hoping the NYPD detectives will continue to conduct a complete and in-depth investigation to determine what the available evidence indicates.

The South Sudanese embassy’s deputy permanent representative, Cecilia Adeng, told The Post that they were ‘not aware’ of Oliha’s alleged crimes.

“This is absolutely intolerable,” said the speaker.

We will submit a report to our

According to a police report, Oliha told the woman he was going upstairs while they were both in the building’s elevator.

She allegedly followed him into her apartment after saying “no you’re not,” where he allegedly sexually assaulted her twice, once with and once without a condom.

Police detained Oliha and questioned him, but when the Special Victims Unit of the NYPD learned of his immunity, they released him without charging him.

She reportedly opened the door to her apartment as he allegedly persisted, forcing his way inside and pinning her against the wall.

According to the police, the woman was raped twice, the first time using a condom and the second time not.

The woman was in shock after the assault and went to sleep; it wasn’t until a friend persuaded her to call the police that she decided to file a report.

After that, the victim was taken to the Columbia University Medical Center for treatment.

After being detained for almost 12 hours, Oliha was eventually released by police after they discovered his residency.

“It is incomprehensible that diplomatic immunity should take precedence over the victim of this sexual assault receiving justice.”

According to Liz Roberts, CEO of Safe Horizon, “We join with all survivors in demanding accountability and a thorough investigation of this incident.”
