Statement by Ambassador Barbara Woodward at the UN General Assembly high-level special event on food security

First, we back Turkish and UN efforts to mediate a deal on grain exports from Ukrainian ports.

A glimmer of hope exists for the global food system to become stable, as the Secretary-General stated last week.

We are concentrating on the most urgent needs, second.

The possibility of numerous famines this year is quite concerning, and our bilateral help will be concentrated in Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen.

Third, collaborating with important partners to guarantee that fertiliser is still available for the crop the next year.

Globally, we are supporting the G7 Global Alliance for Food Security while maintaining our focus on the Sustainable Development Goals.

We and our allies will continue to be dedicated to assisting in and ending this disaster.
