To reduce number of road crashes that claim lives and property, motorists have been reminded of the need to avoid distractions while driving.
Eyewitnesses, sympathizers and rescue workers issued the reminder at the scene of yesterday’s road accident at the Nawfia axis of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.
Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha reports that the crash at the single lane presently serving road users involved a Toyota Highlander with registration number ACA 688 PX and Mercedes 911 with registration number AH 367 UWN, and gathered that both were coming from opposite directions.
Eyewitnesses around the crash scene, including Mr. Amos Nwovu, Idris Musa and Chika Uche attributed it to loss of concentration on the part of the Toyota driver arising from use of mobile phone while driving.
They further narrated that occupants of the Toyota vehicle absconded the accident scene on noticing the damages caused, and later came back to tow their vehicle out of the scene, but were resisted by people who had gathered.
The driver of the ill-fated 911, Mr. Sunny Balogun from Ogun State, who explained that he and his two colleagues, who were trapped by their vehicle, were conveying banana from Cross River State to Onitsha, Anambra State.
Meanwhile, FRSC officials, hours later, arrived the accident scene and lifted the 911 before taking mangled bodies of those trapped to a hospital.
Some eyewitnesses, sympathizers, rescue workers and passers-by expressed mixed reactions that a monkey tied to the ill-fated 911 survive the accident unhurt.
