Soweto F1? Bobby Hartslief leads bid

Soweto and Nasrec have emerged as potential future venues for the South African Formula 1 Grand Prix, according to reports from Cape Town.

This is a result of the government’s failure to provide financial assurances, which caused the agreement to secure Kyalami as the South African Grand Prix venue for the upcoming season to fall through.

Now, South African businessman Bobby Hartslief, who saved the South African Formula 1 Grand Prix in the early 1980s, has announced that he is tasked with putting together a bid for a new South African Grand Prix.

A new street circuit will be developed in the Nasrec showgrounds near to Soweto, south of Johannesburg, for the event.

Hartslief stated on Friday, “Yes, I have been asked for guidance and my opinion on the proposal of a Soweto South African Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Nasrec showgrounds.”

“A group of powerful businesses contacted me a number of years ago with the concept of a gigantic event, one significantly larger than three days of practice, qualifying, and a two-hour Formula 1 race.

“The Soweto South African Grand Prix at the Nasrec showgrounds checks every box… Nasrec is an exposition center of world grade with all necessary amenities and more already there. In Soweto, Nasrec is adjacent to the country’s soul and the symbol of African freedom.

Hartslief drew the following conclusion: “Do I believe a Soweto South African Grand Prix might take place at the Johannesburg Nasrec showgrounds? Unambiguously, yes.

When our principals speak for themselves in due time, we will divulge more of our ideas.
