South Carolina middle schoolchildren leave early after eighth-suicide grader’s


According to accounts, an eighth-grade kid in North Carolina committed suicide on the first day of school.

Students were sent home from Wendell Middle School Tuesday morning following a 'medical crisis'

Tuesday, an unidentified 13-year-old is believed to have committed suicide in a washroom at Wendell Middle School. Two students came across him.

Other children were excused from classes and sent home for the day, but parents were not informed until 10:45am that it was due to a “medical emergency.”

Tuesday morning at Wendell Middle School in South Carolina, an eighth-grader committed suicide.

The school stated it was unable to share any information regarding the crisis due to federal privacy laws.

However, the school’s principal later informed parents that pupils will have access to support resources on Wednesday.

The unexpected death occurred on the same day that a presentation on suicide awareness was scheduled for the Wake County school board.

At the beginning of Tuesday’s meeting, board chairwoman Lindsay Mahaffey stated, “Some of our schools are facing some unique issues this week.”

According to the News and Observer, she stated, “I do want them to know that we are thinking about them and carrying them in our hearts.”

The presentation received by the board presented information regarding “Parent/Family Awareness Sessions” by instructing caregivers on warning signals for children who may be suicidal.
