Marc Shaiman characterized his latest musical, “Some Like It Hot,” as a “huge f–king musical comedy” to Page Six.
“My Judaism supersedes any ability to enjoy,” the composer of “Hairspray” told us at a star-studded cocktail party honoring the show, which is based on the 1959 Marilyn Monroe film of the same name.
Although I should no longer make jokes in this anti-Semitic society, I’m constantly waiting for the other shoe to fall.

Despite his tempered enthusiasm, the 63-year-old Tony winner went on to explain that the musical comedy he and longtime collaborator Scott Wittman co-wrote is “very contemporary in its themes.”
Shaiman stated that numerous changes were made to the screenplay, which starred Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis, in order to enrich the characters.
The musical will debut in December.
He added that they are still making adjustments to the show, but he’s happy to report that he’s actually sleeping.

Similar to the film, the musical follows the struggles of jazz musicians during Prohibition; however, it features black actors and updates the gender theme.
Shaiman teased that the show deals with the movie’s immortal final line, “nobody’s perfect,” in a “very wonderful way.”

Shaiman, who recently composed the music for the Billy Eichner romantic comedy “Bros,” wowed the crowd at the star-studded party by performing the show’s title song.
“Some Like It Hot” is now in previews and will open on December 11.
