Six Russians plunge 13,000ft on Eurasia’s highest active volcano

According to local media, at least six climbers have perished while scaling Far Eastern Russia’s most active volcano.

On the 15,884-foot Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano in Russia’s Kamchatka area, six more climbers are reportedly trapped due to severe weather.

According to reports, two more people perished immediately after the deaths of four of those who died instantaneously after falling 13,000 feet.

According to the prosecutor’s office of the Kamchatka area, the climbers were attempting to go to the volcano’s peak when the disaster happened around 1,600 feet below the summit.

Twelve climbers are reported to be in the group, with two believed to be at a camp at 10,827 feet above sea level and four perhaps in a tent at 13,000 feet.

On Tuesday, the party, which included two guides, started their climb. According to reports, the six fatalities occurred yesterday.

The status of the other climbers is unclear, however one of the guides may have fractured his leg.

According to the accounts, all of the climbers were Russians.

About 6,000 years ago, Klyuchevskaya Sopka was developed, and its first reported eruption took place in 1697.

It is thought to be the most hazardous volcano in Russia, and in March 2020 it sent ash clouds 20,000 feet into the air.

According to the Global Volcanism Programme, it has erupted more than 100 times during the last 300 years.

The volcano, which is 4,225 miles to the east of Moscow, is the tallest peak in Siberia.
