A mother obsessed with serial killers and BDSM has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering her on-off boyfriend, Frankie Fitzgerald, 25.
Shaye Groves, 27, slit Fitzgerald’s throat before stabbing him 17 times in the chest at her home in Havant, Hampshire in July 2022. During the five-week trial, it was revealed that Groves had framed pictures of serial killers on her walls, collected books about gangsters, including Charles Bronson, and was a fan of true crime documentaries.
Groves had tried to portray herself as Fitzgerald’s victim and used tips from true crime documentaries to plan her alibi. Police bodycam footage showed Groves, wearing a pink dressing gown and smoking a cigarette, being arrested at her home.
Sentencing her to a minimum of 23 years, Justice Kerr described the murder as a “crime of passion” and told Groves that she was “not a cold-blooded murderer.”
