Serena Williams spoke with Harry and Markle before retiring

Serena Williams, a tennis pro, spoke to close friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle before choosing to retire this year.

Williams said that she spoke to the pair before making her choice earlier this month on Meghan Markle’s new Archetypes show on Spotify.

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, allegedly had Prince Harry “trying to pound some sense” into her, according to Meghan, who said that Williams and her husband had discussed what she should do for “hours.”

Williams remarked in conversation on the podcast: “You knew about that for a long time, and I spoke with Harry about it a lot as well.

I remember the day you were in the home, Meghan, 41, retorted. What were you two just talking about, I said. It must have lasted for at least an hour.

According to Insider, the pair seems to have been contacted since they are “intimately acquainted” with the difficulties of “stepping away from a job that has defined them.”

In January 2020, Harry and Meghan left their roles as active members of the royal family and relocated to an opulent estate in Montecito, California, with their two kids, Archie and Lilibet.

The three of us truly recognise that the correct choice isn’t always the simplest one, Meghan stated on the show.

It’s the difficult choice. And it takes a lot of consideration, advice, and support to just say, “Uh, uh, uh,” and then make the decision.

Williams continued by saying that the fact that her “whole life has been one thing” made the choice to quit even more tough.

“As you know, being on the fence is the worst place to be,” she said. Therefore, you have to choose if you want to participate or not. I enjoy what I do, therefore I was undecided for a time.

The tennis pro praised the pair for serving as a sounding board as she prepares to compete in her last US Open this week. She also emailed an early preview of the Vogue piece in which she announced her retirement to Harry and Meghan.

Williams remarked, “I wanted you to know what it meant to have your support and for H’s support—for everything.”

“I’ve been doing this all my life.” It was what I was intended to do, what was selected for me, and it was what I was destined to do even before I was born.

Meghan received criticism for launching a fresh attack on the Royal Family in the first episode of her brand-new podcast.

She stated that despite being in tears after seeing her son Archie barely escape a fire in his bedroom, she felt compelled to continue with her obligations during a tour of South Africa.

During a lengthy chat, the former actress also attacked individuals who condemned her for being “ambitious” when she began dating Prince Harry.

Her podcast was released just before Meghan’s shocking interview with the New York magazine The Cut, in which she was criticised for “comparing herself.”

When their baby Archie was born, Meghan alleges she was informed by a Lion King cast member in 2019 that South Africans “danced in the street” much as when “Mandela was released from jail.”

However, Americans have called her most recent statements “sickening,” saying they are “so out of touch” with reality.

After the pair chose to stop acting as working royals, she has also come under fire for “using her title” to keep “trashing the institution” that bestowed it upon her.

Meghan’s recent explosive interview even asserts that before they left, she and Prince Harry were “upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy… simply by existing.”
