After being caught on camera viewing porn during a parliamentary session, a Serbian lawmaker resigned.
During a meeting about Serbia’s relations with Kosovo, Zvonimir Stevi, a seasoned politician with a long history of involvement in Serbian-Kosovan diplomacy, was seen viewing porn on his phone.
Lawmakers were gathering to discuss international relationships that may have an impact on Kosovo’s candidacy to join the EU.
Stevi, the head of the Committee for Kosovo and a recent law graduate, was more engrossed in the sexual massage video that was lying on his lap.
Serbia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ivica Dai, requested the MP’s resignation and said, “Wherever you appear, whatever you say, you will always be a porno MP.”
The MP was seen browsing two X-rated websites and viewing videos.
Stevi resigned after a tape was released onto social media and taken up by the news media.
The foreign minister and head of the Socialist Party, Ivica Dacic, declared: “This is a scandal and a calamity.”
“Zvonko, it’s reasonable for you to quit,” I said. You are incapable of handling this, hence you are unable to continue serving as a deputy.
I am a party soldier, therefore I will do as you want, Zvonimir said when asked to comply.
Western countries are putting pressure on Serbia and Kosovo to mend fences following Kosovo’s 2008 declaration of independence.
The problem is seen to be the main impediment to Serbia’s EU membership.
In 1991, Stevi was elected vice-president of the municipal assembly of Pritina.
He rose to the position of deputy minister and head of the coordination center at the Ministry for Kosovo and Metohija in 2008, becoming a key player in handling ties with Kosovo.
In 2008, he faced criticism for using more over 2.5 million dinars (about £18,704) of parliamentary funds for travel costs.
British lawmaker Neil Parish resigned in May of last year after being discovered twice in the chamber browsing sexual material.
He said that the first incident was unintentional and the second was from “a moment of lunacy” after “looking at tractors.”
