Across all industries, advertised salaries rose by 4.1 per cent in the year to July. This was better than the 2.6 per cent wage price index in the year to June, but was well below the 6.1 per cent inflation rate covering the same period

Architects received the highest stated salary rise, 7.3%, which is above inflation.

The employment website SEEK uncovered several salary increase tendencies in Australia.

As the city of public servants, Canberra has the highest average advertised six-figure wages in Australia, according to the job search website SEEK.

Between August 2021 and July 2022, Australian Capital Territory employers offered by far the highest pay among the states and territories, with average full-time packages of $100,643.

The Australian Capital Territory, home to federal public service departments, was significantly ahead of mining-rich Western Australia, New South Wales, and the Northern Territory.

Followed by Queensland ($82,025), South Australia ($80,410), and Tasmania ($80,187), Victoria ranked in the bottom half of the states and territories in terms of average advertised pay.

Information and communications technology had the highest average advertised wage among employment sectors, surpassing even mining at $126,783.

The average salary for open consultant positions was $124,613, ranking third behind engineering at $118,496, construction at $110,407, and legal professionals at $107,104.

Government jobs rounded out the six-figure jobs, with an average salary of $101,014.

In the year leading up to July, salaries advertised across all industries increased by 4.1% as firms battled to attract workers in a low unemployment climate.

This was an improvement over the 2.6% wage price index in the year leading up to June, but it was still insufficient to keep up with inflation, which was running at 6.1% during the same period.

Inflation-adjusted, this indicated that those who transferred occupations for higher compensation likely saw a drop in real wages, even though the nominal amount was higher.

Design and architecture and information and communications technology were the only two industries whose claimed pay rates have climbed faster than inflation.

The trades and services industry, which includes occupations such as electricians, increased by 6.3%.

The mining, resources, and energy sector expanded by 5.7%.

With unemployment falling to a 48-year low of 3.4% in July, senior economist at SEEK Matt Cowgill stated that firms must offer substantial compensation to attract talent.

‘Unlike earlier labor market booms, such as the mining boom, this is not a circumstance in which certain regions of the country advance far faster than others,’ he said.

In the year leading up to July, advertised salaries increased by 4.1% across all industries. This was higher than the year-to-date wage price index of 2.6%, but far lower than the inflation rate of 6.1% for the same time.

The labor market has been virtually uniformly robust.

The increase in advertised wage increases has been widespread.

The annual advertised wage growth for the majority of job categories is greater than three percent.

Since 2013, however, the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ wage growth gauges have remained below 3%, and both the Treasury and the Reserve Bank predict inflation in 2022 to reach a 32-year high of 7.75%.

The purpose of a series of interest rate increases since May was to restrict spending and, in turn, curb inflation, but Australians continue to spend, as retail trade numbers for July show a 1.3% increase, the biggest in four months.

However, retail workers had the lowest average full-time wage of $58,438 on the SEEK website, trailing hotel and tourist workers at $62,371 and call centre employees at $6,013.
