Rupa Huq quits BBC panel comedy after her Kwasi Kwarteng statement

Rupa Huq, a Labour Party member, canceled her appearance on Have I Got News For You after being expelled for calling Kwasi Kwarteng “superficially” black.

On October 7, Miss Huq, the sister of former Blue Peter presenter Konnie, was scheduled to participate in a panel discussion on the BBC 1 news comedy program.

She was supposed to accompany the team’s captains, Ian Hislop and Paul Merton, as well as the guest presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell and comedian Ivo Graham.

Hat Trick Productions, the show’s producers, however, stated: “Rupa Huq MP has opted not to appear.”

Listening to the Chancellor on the radio, the Ealing Central and Acton MP said that “you wouldn’t know he is black.” Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of Labour, deemed the comments to be racist.

The 50-year-old Miss Huq expressed regret to Mr. Kwarteng for her “ill-judged” remarks.

Regarding the comments, Starmer stated, “She shouldn’t have said it. She will face consequences, and let me be quite clear: that was racist.
