Rishi Sunak, the spokesperson for UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, has dismissed assertions made by Conservative MP Danny Kruger that heterosexual marriages are the exclusive basis for a secure and prosperous society.

Kruger, speaking at the National Conservatism Conference in London, argued that marriage is a public act deserving recognition and reward from wider society.

He emphasized the importance of parents staying together for the well-being of their children.

However, Downing Street distanced Prime Minister Boris Johnson from Kruger’s remarks, clarifying that the government does not endorse the conference’s agenda despite the participation of some ministers, including Sunak.

The National Conservatism Conference, organized by a Right-wing US think tank, gathers individuals who prioritize the concept of nationhood and view national conservatism as the optimal path forward.

Other Conservative MPs, such as Suella Braverman, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Michael Gove, and Miriam Cates, also spoke at the event.

He is the son of Prue Leith, an 82-year-old judge on The Great British Bake Off, and the late author Rayne Kruger.

Kruger is married and has three children.

He attended Eton College and pursued a history degree at both the University of Edinburgh and the University of Oxford.

Prior to entering politics, Kruger held positions as a Conservative Party policy adviser at a center-right think tank, a writer for the Daily Telegraph, and as David Cameron’s chief speech writer.

Additionally, he co-founded Only Connect, a youth crime prevention charity based in London.

Kruger has represented the constituency of Devizes in Wiltshire as a Conservative MP since 2019.

Kruger’s Political Stance and Controversies

As analyzed by They Work For You, a platform that scrutinizes MP voting records, Kruger consistently voted against measures aimed at addressing climate change, supported stricter asylum systems, and voted against increased integration with the European Union.

In 2021, he was fined after his Jack Russell puppy chased deer in Richmond Park, causing a stampede of approximately 200 animals.

In 2020, Kruger faced criticism and issued an apology after being photographed without wearing a face mask on a train.

During a parliamentary debate in June 2022 regarding the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v Wade, Kruger expressed his disagreement with the notion of women having an absolute right to bodily autonomy.

He argued that the involvement of another body in the case of abortion qualifies this right.
