The former Church of England clergyman lauded the queen for ‘fulfilling her commitment’ to serve the nation for her ‘entire life,’ regardless of how long or short it may be.

In an opinion piece published in today’s Sunday Times, Reverend Coles stated that during his time as a vicar, he became acquainted with all the Kings and Queens of England with epithets, including Ethelred the Unready, Alfred the Great, Ferdinand the Fickle, and his personal favorite, Erik the Priest Hater.

However, the former Northamptonshire vicar of Finedon asked, “What about Elizabeth II?”

Coles rose to notoriety as a member of the Communards in the 1980s, reaching three top 10 singles, including “Don’t Leave Me This Way.”
