Return of Jadon Sancho salvages a point for Manchester United

Wednesday night at Old Trafford, England international Jadon Sancho scored the equalizer to help Manchester United salvage a point in their English Premier League match against Leeds United.

United produced a second-half comeback following a poor first half that saw them fall behind by two goals. United earned a 2-2 draw thanks to strikes from Marcus Rashford and substitute Jadon Sancho in the span of eight minutes.

Manager Erik Ten Hag isolated Sancho from the rest of the team for nearly four months after he considered him unfit to play. The 22-year-old winger was reportedly struggling with physical and mental health concerns, so the Dutch manager gave him a special holiday during which he trained alone in the Netherlands.

The Red Devils paid £73m (R1.5bn) to acquire the Englishman from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Sancho returned to action in Wednesday’s 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Nottingham Forest.

Ten Hag showed his admiration for the talented winger and promised to assist him in recovering his form.

During a post-match interview, Ten Hag stated, “I am pleased and proud he did it.”

“It is evident that he is going through a terrible time, but he has emerged from it and deserves respect for that. He is a fantastic footballer, and if he invests in the proper levels, he can become exceptional.

“I will support him, as will the coaches and the team, but ultimately he must do it himself.”

United continues to hold the third spot in the rankings, seven points behind leaders Arsenal and two points behind rivals Manchester City. Ten Hag and his team meet Leeds again at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.
