Republicans on the House Education and Labor Committee are criticizing President Biden for incorrectly stating that a proposal he devised unilaterally to cancel up to $20,000 in student loans was a “law” that narrowly passed Congress.
Friday, Biden made the statement during a NowThis News presidential forum.
As reported by DailyMail.com, Biden was promoting the proposal and criticizing Republicans who had condemned it on the same day he accepted pandemic relief loans.
Biden stated at the discussion, ‘As you’re probably aware, I’ve just signed a law that is being contested by my Republican colleagues, the same people that received PPP loans… in some cases up to 5 – 600,000 – and they have no problem with it.
“It has ended. It was approved by a vote or two. And it is in effect,’ said Biden.
President Joe Biden hailed a new executive order giving up to $20,000 in student loan forgiveness as a legislative accomplishment, despite the fact that it did not come through Congress.
