In the midst of chaos on the House floor on Friday night, an Alabama representative had to be restrained by another politician to prevent him from lunging for Rep. Matt Gaetz.
Rep. Mike Rogers charged violently at Rep. Gaetz after the Florida member voted “present” in the fourteenth round of voting for House speaker.
The ruling prevented Representative Kevin McCarthy from being elected speaker during that round of voting.
According to photographs captured within the chambers, Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) grabbed Rogers to prevent him from attacking Gaetz.
As Rogers attempted to reprimand Gaetz, Hudson grabbed Rogers back by the shoulder and placed one hand over the Alabama lawmaker’s mouth.
Rogers can be seen pointing at Gaetz in exasperation with Hudson slung across his back.
McCarthy was subsequently chosen speaker in the fifteenth round of voting, bringing to a close a protracted fight that had begun on Tuesday.
