Ray Hadley 2GB abandons Ekka broadcast due to technical “fiasco” and returns to Sydney

Ray Hadley, enraged, stormed off a live broadcast from the Royal Queensland Show after technical glitches ruined his morning radio show.

Hadley informed listeners on Monday that his broadcast from the performance, known as the Ekka, had been a fiasco since just after 9 a.m., and that he would not continue.

The 2GB announcer had actively promoted the Brisbane visit on his show and was scheduled to be at the Ekka all week.

Hadley began his program, which is also broadcast on Brisbane’s 4BC and dozens more network stations around Australia, with the normal opening, but it swiftly devolved into mayhem.

‘Just a couple of little technological issues while we’re at the Ekka,’ Hadley said. ‘I can tell you that everything will be fixed by the time I get here tomorrow.’

An enraged Ray Hadley has walked off a live broadcast from the Royal Queensland Show due to technical issues. ‘Now I’m going to take a little break and come back and look at the weather very soon,’ he said. The time is currently 25 minutes past nine.’

Hadley came back on after playing advertisements and experiencing constant issues, including moments of stillness, and stated, ‘Look, we’re going to take another break.’

More commercials followed before Hadley said that the difficulties were still persisting and that he would be ‘having conversations’ after the show ended at lunchtime.

‘All I can do is genuinely apologize for the first 30 minutes of the presentation, which was a total and utter mess,’ he added.

‘However, I do apologize. I’m streaming from the Ekka, which I didn’t get to tell you about since nothing appeared to be working.’ I think it’s now operational, and we’ll see what happens next, but please accept my heartfelt apologies to network stations and listeners on 2GB and 4BC for what has essentially been a farce for the last 30 minutes.

‘And, of course, we’ll be talking about the disaster I presided over at lunchtime.’

After another break, the problems had not been rectified, and Hadley announced that his normal stand-in, Mark Levy, would be taking over the program.

‘Look, we’re having some quite serious technological issues here at the Ekka, to the point that Mark Levy will be in charge of the program after ten o’clock this morning, for which I apologize to Mark and everyone else.’ While I’m on the radio, there are folks here attempting – unsuccessfully, I should add – to repair things.

‘There’s no sense attempting to go through three hours of this without much aid, as we do from time to time, since technically we don’t have anything here in front of me that’s truly operating right now.

‘So we’ll slog on until 10 o’clock, and then Mark will take over.’

As the clock approached 10 a.m., Hadley informed listeners that he was on his way to the airport.

‘I’ll make my way back to Sydney, and given the challenges we had this morning, I’ll be presenting from the Sydney studio tomorrow.’

Daily Mail Australia comprehends Hadley has been told that the technological concerns would be resolved. On Tuesday, he will resume broadcasting from the Ekka.

‘Ray will stay in Brisbane this week and broadcast from the Ekka,’ a spokesman for Nine Entertainment, which owns 2GB, said.

Hadley said he would be returning to Sydney to host his program but a spokeswoman for Nine Entertainment, which owns 2GB, said he would be saying in Brisbane and broadcasting from the Ekka for the rest of the week. Hadley is pictured with wife Sophie Baird
