The province of Gauteng’s rapid response services continue to crack down on crime. Rapid Response Services (RRS) personnel in Gauteng detained 176 people over the course of seven days (17–23 June 2022), seizing 58 stolen cars and nine illegal firearms while doing so.

Units like the Gauteng Highway Patrol, the K9 Unit, and the Flying Squad are included in the Rapid Response Services component.

Charges against the 176 individuals detained as part of various crime prevention efforts include, among others: murder, assault with the intent to do great bodily injury, rape, theft, tampering with goods used in the public utilities, possession of drugs, stolen property, and unlicensed firearms.

The suspects are showing up in front of the province’s numerous local Magistrates’ courts.
