Rail workers strike: half of railway lines will be closed next week

When rail workers go on strike next week, half of all lines will be closed.

Employees on the rail network will be on strike from June 20 to June 26.

Network Rail has verified that the outage will halt thousands of services.

On strike days, just around half of Britain’s rail network will be open, with a very restricted service running on lines that will only be open from about 7.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.

On Friday, a special schedule will be released.

Andrew Haines, Network Rail chief executive, said: ‘Talks have not progressed as far as I had hoped and so we must prepare for a needless national rail strike and the damaging impact it will have.

‘We, and our train operating colleagues, are gearing up to run the best service we can for passengers and freight users next week despite the actions of the RMT.”’
