Scott Mason, 36, has been jailed following a counter-terror probe. He is said by police to harbour right wing, racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic views

Manchester Crown Court heard Mason was first brought to the attention of authorities following a report of a domestic assault in October 2021, which led to him being arrested by Cheshire Constabulary
The Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) unit then started an inquiry. During the inquiry, a paper containing severe pornographic photos and step-by-step instructions for making home bombs was discovered on his phone.

Additionally, messages found in phone records showed that he had made an effort to intimidate those who had seen the initial domestic violence.

Mason allegedly faced additional charges under the Terrorism Act on October 15, 2021, when CTPNW and Merseyside Police officers carried out a search warrant at his residence. A forbidden “push dagger” was taken.

In addition to being accused of violating section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000 by possessing information that may be beneficial to terrorists, Mason was also accused of possessing extreme pornography, intimidating witnesses, perverting the course of justice, and having a dangerous weapon.

In November 2021, Mason pled guilty to the terrorist offense, and in January 2022, he pleaded guilty to the weapons offense. Mason was given a three-month term at the magistrates’ court for both offenses. Before Mason entered a guilty plea to the remaining counts in April, the case was then scheduled for trial.

Mason was given a three-year term this week by His Honor Judge Alan Conrad QC. Mason was informed that if he hadn’t entered an early guilty plea, he would have been sentenced to four and a half years.

Mason will likely serve a lengthy jail sentence as a result of this exhaustive investigation, according to CTPNW Detective Superintendent William Chatterton. Our dedication to ensuring that individuals who represent a risk to our society will be pursued and prosecuted is reaffirmed by today’s punishment.
