Queensland man who shares car-related content on social media charged with hoon activity

A 21-year-old man who shares car-related content on social media has been charged with more than 100 offences following a police investigation into alleged hoon activity.

The chaos first unfolded when Queensland Police stopped a vehicle on Caleys Court in Lockrose at around 11.30am on February 18. The car, a Ford Falcon, was defective, unregistered, uninsured and was linked to various active investigations into dangerous driving offences between February 7-18, police said. The alleged driver, 21-year-old Nathan Evans from Lockrose, was charged with various offences and his mobile phone was seized by officers for further investigation.

Following analysis of the device and further inquiries into social media footage, Mr Evans was taken into custody on March 1. He has since been charged with 23 counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, 25 counts each of driving unregistered, uninsured and driving a defective vehicle. He was also charged with seven counts of supplying dangerous drugs and one count each of possessing anything to use in the commission of a crime and driving while using a mobile phone.

Mr Evans will appear before the Gatton Magistrates Court on April 24. Investigations are ongoing and police appeal to anyone with information in relation to dangerous driving to come forward. Officer in Charge of Laidley Police Station, Acting Senior Sergeant Damian van den Berg said the arrest is the culmination of extensive efforts by investigators.

“This result is an example of Queensland Police Service’s dedication to ensuring our roadways are safe for all users,” Acting Senior Sergeant Van den Berg said. “Intentionally driving an unsafe vehicle in a dangerous manner on public roads is not only putting the lives of the driver and passengers on the line, but innocent members of the public.”
