Queen Elizabeth passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Thursday, as reported by the Buckingham Palace. She was 96 years old.

On Sunday, the coffin of the queen was brought from Balmoral in Aberdeenshire to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. On Monday, King Charles and his siblings led a procession from the palace to St. Giles’ Cathedral before attending a memorial ceremony for Her Majesty.

The brooch originally belonged to the Queen Mother, and Queen Elizabeth received it following her death in 2002, Hello! Magazine reports. The Queen Mother regarded it one of her go-to outfits and wore it on formal occasions, according to the source.

It is unknown when Queen Elizabeth gave Camilla the brooch. Camilla wore it for the first time publicly in 2015, according to Hello! Magazine. She was also spotted wearing it in a video broadcast to Clarence House’s Twitter account for Burns Night 2021, according to a publication. Burns Night is observed annually on January 25 in Scotland to commemorate the renowned Scottish poet Robert Burns. Thistle is the national flower of Scotland.

Queen Elizabeth held Scotland and its people in high affection. According to the official website, she spent every summer on vacation at Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands and visited the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh for “Royal Week” in June.

According to BBC News, the queen said during the inauguration of the Scottish Parliament in 2021, “I have spoken before of my deep and abiding affection for this wonderful country and of the many happy memories Prince Philip and I always held of our time here”.

“It is often said that it is the people that make a place and there are few places where this is truer than it is in Scotland,” she said.

Camilla was formerly recognised in Scotland as the Duchess of Rothesay before to becoming queen consort. Kate Middleton currently has the title as a result of King Charles’ succession to the throne. Middleton and Prince William have also acquired the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales from Charles and Princess Diana.

According to the official website, the Queen’s coffin will lie at St. Gile’s Cathedral until Wednesday, when it will be moved to Westminster Hall at the Palace of Westminster in London, where the public will be permitted to visit before to her burial on September 19. According to the BBC, an estimated 20,000 mourners formed a mile-long line on Monday to pay their respects to the queen at St Giles’ Cathedral.

Recent government instructions said that lineups at Westminster are likely to be “very long” and that visitors “will need to stand for many hours, possibly overnight, with very little opportunity to sit down as the queue will keep moving.”
