PSG’s Neymar is acquitted of fraud

Barcelona — Friday, prosecutors in Spain dismissed corruption and fraud allegations against football player Neymar and others suspected in the 2013 transfer of the Brazilian to Barcelona from Santos.

In a surprising move, the prosecutor announced the “removal of all charges and claims against all of the defendants.”

Neymar, 30 years old, stated he did not recall if he participated in the 2011 negotiations that led to his transfer from Brazilian club Santos to the Spanish side Barcelona two years later.

Spanish prosecutors demanded a two-year prison sentence and a €10 million punishment for Neymar, a crucial component of the Brazil team that will compete at the World Cup in Qatar next month.

The dismissal of the allegations concludes a lengthy court battle over Neymar’s high-profile transfer to Europe.

In 2017, he joined the Qatar-owned Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record €222 million move.

Neymar was one of nine defendants on trial for corruption-related accusations, alongside his parents and their management business, N&N.
