President Joe Biden’s support for a federal fund for women who take time off work or pay for child care while seeking an abortion has prompted pro-life leaders to challenge him.

Jeanne Mancini, president of March for Life, responded in a statement, “It is heartbreaking to see that President Biden is so obsessed with abortion on demand that he is willing to use American tax dollars to push for more abortion rather than offering federal funding for lifesaving options offered by pro-life organizations and maternity homes across the country.”

Biden made these remarks during an interview forum that NowThis will broadcast on October 23. Group Nine Media, which owns NowThis, provided CNA with a portion of the transcript.

Biden’s statements on abortion were in response to a question from Danielle Mathisen, a 26-year-old medical resident who referenced her own abortion.

“In the wake of Roe,” Mathisen said, referring to the 1973 Supreme Court decision that was recently overturned in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization — a ruling that allows individual states to determine abortion policy. “I had to travel about 600 miles, leave my family behind, and spend thousands of dollars to get abortion care for my own very wanted and very loved pregnancy.”

“Some firms offer funding and services for trips of this nature,” she continued, before asking Biden, “Would you support a federal stipend for individuals like myself who must take time off work and arrange for child care?”

Biden said, “Unquestionably.”

“The answer is unquestionably,” stated the president. However, guess what? We require identical votes. We must overturn Dobbs in order to reinstall the court-stricken decision.”

As president, he reportedly urged businesses to assist their staff in obtaining abortions.

He continued, “I mean, I do support that, and I’ve openly asked businesses to do so.” “As president of the United States, I have openly asked them to do this, stating that this is what they should be doing. I implore you to do it because there are so many, and consider the women who require such aid but have no money to do it. None. What, what, how do they operate? They do not, they lack the choice.”

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the national pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, emphasized that Biden’s position on abortion is unpopular.

She said in a statement, “President Biden and the Democrats’ one-note strategy of promoting abortion on demand until birth will not prevent them from losing Congress.” “Biden’s radical agenda is not supported by the majority of Americans who support restrictions on abortion, particularly restrictions on late-term abortions in which unborn babies can feel pain.”

The president of Students for Life, Kristan Hawkins, stated on Twitter that Biden’s statements motivated her to take political action.

She tweeted, “How does it feel, American taxpayers, when the President tells you that he’s taking money from your wallet and giving it to abortionists to kill children – and there’s nothing you can do about it?” “I feel the impulse to vote as a result”

CatholicVote also commented on Twitter, posing the question, “Government-funded abortion vacations?” The Catholic advocacy group criticized Biden for “promising to take tax dollars out of the pockets of American workers to pay for time off to kill unborn children.”

Despite the Catholic Church’s teaching that abortion is a grave sin and that human life is sacrosanct from the moment of conception, the president has frequently endorsed abortion.

The NowThis interview forum follows Biden’s Tuesday speech, in which he pledged to codify Roe v. Wade if Democrats win the November midterm elections.

The White House had no response at the time of publication.
