Presidential Youth Employment Initiative’s Phase III ends on August 31, 2022

According to the Department of Basic Education, Phase III of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI), which is being implemented in the basic education sector, will terminate at the end of August without any further extensions (DBE).

“Phase III ends on August 31, 2022, and will not be extended further. All PYEI participants, authorities, helpers, schools, and businesses are valued contributors, the DBE stated in a statement on Tuesday.

Beginning on April 1, 2022, the third phase saw the placement of qualified youngsters in more than 20 000 schools spread across the nine provinces of the nation.

“Based on the resources available, Phase III concludes on August 31, 2022, with no further extensions, as initially announced in terms of the project management plan.

Phase IV is almost ready to start early in 2023 with a new cohort of young people, according to the department.

The PYEI is designed to give young people the chance to gain experience in the workforce and develop their skills through informal and formal training programmes provided by the provinces and Department of Basic Education.

The PYEI also gave young South Africans the chance to contribute significantly financially to their communities.

According to the department, PYEI’s noteworthy accomplishment aids in solving the triple challenge of gender inequality, unemployment, and poverty.

“As a government, we encourage youth to continue taking advantage of upskilling opportunities and we further encourage all stakeholders to invest in the upcoming talent pool.

The agency stated that the majority of the kids who were “put in Phase III of PYEI are either adolescents who were placed in Phase I and II or in Phase II solely as they met the standards outlined in the Implementation Framework.”

All the youth who took part in PYEI have received thanks from the ministry.

In addition, the Ministry urged the youth to keep using the abilities, know-how, and exposure they acquired while enrolled in school to widen their horizons.

According to the agency, “some of the kids have begun buddy support programmes at a low cost, others are tutoring in the fields in which they excel, and others are working on community infrastructure projects.”

Message for young people

All the youth who took part in Phases II and III of the project have been thanked by the Presidency, the Department of Basic Education, and provincial education departments.

“The young are urged to keep applying the skills, abilities, and knowledge they have gained as a result of this effort. The Department wishes you the best of luck with your future endeavours.

Message for school administrators and governing bodies

The School Governing Bodies, School Management Teams, and School Principals have also received gratitude from the Presidency, the Department of Basic Education, and the Provincial Education Departments for their contributions and dedication throughout the implementation of Phase I, II, and III.

“The Ministry extends its expression of gratitude and appreciation to you for allowing the youth to participate in the school culture and for providing guidance, training, and support throughout the placement of youth in your schools.”

Neighborhoods and partners

Additionally, communities across the nation have been thanked by the department, the Presidency, and the provincial education departments for their vigilance during the implementation of the three phases.

“You let us know about any problems you encountered with the implementation. The DBE expresses its gratitude and appreciation for all of your efforts to stop unseemly behaviour.

“The DBE recommends that you vigilantly watch over and actively participate in constructing your communities to prepare a fresh cohort of children that they apply for Phase IV.”

The departments also expressed their gratitude to all of their partners who joined them since 2020 in order to provide South African youth with funding, human resources, skills, and knowledge.

“All acts of generosity, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated because they helped communities and South African youth. The Ministry expresses its gratitude and appreciation.
