President Uhuru Kenyatta commissions National Forensic Lab in Kenya

The opening of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, which has already begun operations, will be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Officials say it will expedite investigations into serious crimes such as terrorism, murder, robbery, violence, cybercrime, and rape, among others, as well as unraveling some cases that have proven difficult to crack.

George Kinoti, the director of the DCI, called the developments historic.

“For many years, even after successive administrations committed billions of shillings in the initiative, the ideal of the country having a National Forensic facility that would help in scientifically investigating crime has remained elusive,” the DCI added.

“Every attempt was plagued by corruption, swallowing up billions of shillings that went to the wallets of a few, thereby extinguishing the dream of Kenyan taxpayers,” the organization said on Twitter.

“Under Vision 2030, the Forensic Laboratory was identified as a security flagship project, and it was one of the projects to be completed under the 1st Medium Term Plan 2008-2012.”

The initiative failed to materialize despite being categorized under the security, peacebuilding, and conflict management sector, which plays a crucial and strategic role in reaching the Vision 2030 targets.”

In the ten specialized scientific labs, the government has invested extensively in the physical structure and the installation of relevant state-of-the-art equipment over the last nine years.

Qualified detectives from a variety of academic scientific domains, including Computer Science, Pure Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Physics, and Information Technology, have been dispatched to provide professional services in their areas of expertise.

“As a result, this is a historic national success that DCI must share with all Kenyans, particularly those involved in the criminal justice system.”

Today, we bring you a comprehensive coverage of the commissioning of this crucial state-of-the-art facility, which is unparalleled in Africa and serves as the regional headquarters for forensic investigations,” the DCI added.
