Following President Tinubu’s meeting with members-elect of the Senate, the Abbas/Kalu Campaign secretariat has expressed their submission.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, involved Tinubu, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and the 10th Senate members-elect, including those aspiring for the position of Senate President, who were discontented with the APC’s plan.

Tinubu’s Support for Consensus Candidates

According to the statement from the Abbas/Kalu Campaign secretariat, Tinubu remains firm in his support for the APC’s endorsed candidates.

It appears that he is unlikely to change his stance.

President’s Appeal and Missing Attendees

During the meeting, President Tinubu emphasized the necessity of working towards the victory of the APC’s candidates for the 10th National Assembly leadership.

He specifically appealed to the senators-elect and members-elect to support Akpabio, Abbas, Barau, and Kalu.

Tinubu stressed that the success of his administration largely depends on the selection of the National Assembly’s leadership, urging them to understand his viewpoint.

Notably, Ahmed Idris Wase and Aminu Sani Jaji were conspicuously absent, despite receiving invitations.

Possible Contest for Speaker’s Seat

While Wase had previously expressed his intention to contest for the Speaker’s seat, stating that it had been prophesied he would become Speaker, it is anticipated that only Wase would proceed with the contest, as other candidates may step down following the President’s appeal.

Conclusion:

The APC has designated Godswill Akpabio as President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau as Deputy President of the Senate, Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker, and Benjamin Kalu as Deputy Speaker.

President Tinubu’s unwavering support for the party’s consensus candidates underscores the significance of their selection for the stability of the nation.
