According to the Church of England, the popularity of mindfulness and spirituality is the reason why younger generations are praying more often than older ones.
Approximately 32% of people between the ages of 18 and 34 and 25% of those over the age of 55 reported having prayed in the previous month.
In contrast to only 41% of those over 55, the majority of respondents in the younger age group (56%) said they had prayed at least once during the poll.
The Church of England commissioned a Savanta ComRes poll of 2,073 UK individuals, and it revealed that the three most frequent subjects of prayer were for friends and family (69%) and those who are ill (54%), as well as giving gratitude (51 per cent).
According to the Church of England, young people pray more often than previous generations because mindfulness and spirituality are becoming more prominent.
According to Rev. Dr. Stephen Hance, who speaks for the CofE on evangelism, the results refute the notion that “young people are not interested in religion or spiritual topics.”
“Prayer makes sense to people at a time when mindfulness and meditation are more common than ever,” he added.
While the CofE links the poll findings to a rise in spirituality, it’s also feasible that younger generations’ conservatism may have a role.
The Archbishop of York stated: “Let our churches be places where prayer is taught and experienced if younger people wish to pray.”
A quarter of “Generation Z” is reportedly abstaining from alcohol, and because of their “woke” stances on subjects like trans rights, they have been dubbed “new puritans.”
Reaching out in prayer to the God who loves us and longs to be known by us can bring peace and transform lives, the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, added. “At this time of uncertainty in our world where we face many pressing issues such as the climate emergency, wars, famine, and the cost of living.”
Furthermore, he said, “Let our churches be places where prayer is taught and experienced if younger people wish to pray.”
