More than a month after four University of Idaho students were discovered dead in a house near campus, police continue to focus on a white car caught on surveillance footage near the property, as evidence is leading detectives to “find trends” in the investigation.
A white 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra was captured on surveillance footage “in the immediate vicinity” of the residence around the time of the murders. The Moscow Police Department announced on Thursday that investigators are sifting through 22,000 registered automobiles that match the car’s description.
“Through our tips, our leads, and some of the incoming evidence, we are beginning to discover trends,” Captain Roger Lanier said in a Thursday video interview. “As said previously, we are certain that the occupants of that vehicle possessed crucial information for this inquiry.”
Officers have been collecting video evidence since the day of the crime, November 13, according to Lanier. According to him, while the first focus was on the immediate region, the hunt for video gradually moved to the King Road area and the city’s major thoroughfares.
Lanier stated, “We were not trying to limit our inquiry to the suspect’s residence in the vicinity.” We wanted to ensure that all bases were covered.
The murders reportedly occurred early in the morning on Sunday, November 13, after 3:00 a.m., according to the police. Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin were discovered dead on the second and third floors of the rental home where they resided with two other roommates. Chapin and Kernodle had a relationship.
There have been no suspects identified.

During an appearance on “Good Morning America,” Kristie Goncalves and her husband expressed concerns at the investigation’s pace and expressed concern that evidence will begin to vanish over time.
