PM Boris Johnson conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on August 25, 2022

On 25 August 2022, the Prime Minister called President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to commend the collaboration between the United Kingdom and Egypt during his premiership and to explore ways to further strengthen the partnership between our nations.

The leaders emphasised the expansion of commercial, economic, and educational connections, including the formation of the UK-Egypt Investment Council and the introduction of new investment possibilities in Egypt.

In addition, they lauded the tight military and security cooperation between our nations, and the Prime Minister thanked President Sisi for his assistance in getting grain out of Ukraine’s ports and on its way to countries experiencing dire food shortages due to Russia’s embargo.

Alaa Abdel Fattah’s consular case was reviewed between the Prime Minister and President Sisi, and the Prime Minister expressed his wish for rapid and good action on the matter.

The leaders also discussed the upcoming transfer of the COP presidency from the United Kingdom to Egypt at COP27 in November, emphasising the significance of advancing the transformational action on climate change agreed upon in Glasgow last year.
