A Holocaust survivor who was separated from his twin sister during the war passed away only a few weeks after reaching his 100th birthday.

relatives stated On Monday, Phillip Maisel, a well-known volunteer at the Jewish Holocaust Centre in Melbourne, died away.

Bella, Mr. Maisel’s sister and another Holocaust survivor, is left behind.

One friend used the Yiddish term “mensch,” which means “a person of integrity,” to say, “What a mensch.” Wow, what a life.

Mr. Maisel will be laid to rest on Wednesday.

He captured the testimony of hundreds of survivors while helping at the Holocaust Center.

According to the center, “each tale of survival is a miracle in itself,” giving Phillip the moniker “the Keeper of Miracles.”

After being taken prisoner by the Nazis in 1943, he endured two years of misery in work camps in Estonia, Poland, and Germany.

When he and his fellow captives were freed in 1945, Mr. Maisel was 22 years old.

I had no idea whether anybody in my family survived the Holocaust since I was aware of how brutal life was at the time. Reflecting on his freedom, he told The Sydney Morning Herald that “life is hollow.”

You have freedom, but it is freedom from other people. It makes it very challenging to embrace freedom.
