Six Senators sent in apologies for their absence.

Some Senators were unable to attend as they were in Saudi Arabia for the hajj pilgrimage, which is an important Muslim ritual.

Unity Against Incursions

During the meeting, PDP leaders urged the lawmakers to unite and stand together in order to defend against incursions from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was emphasized that while the PDP holds the majority, division among its members could lead to being outmaneuvered by the opposition.

The party also received intelligence that certain individuals were attempting to use their proximity to Senate leadership to present an illegal list without proper consultation.

PDP’s Warning to APC

In a statement issued by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party warned the ruling APC to stay away from the process of selecting leaders of the opposition in the Senate.

Ologunagba emphasized the importance of a strong opposition in the Senate and stated that the PDP Caucus would play its role in defending democracy and the interests of Nigerians.

The party condemned any attempts by the APC to interfere with the affairs of the Minority Caucus and the constitutional provisions and standing rules that govern the selection of the Minority Leadership.

Continued Consultations and Unified Leadership

The PDP and the Senators engaged in ongoing consultations regarding the selection of the Minority Leadership in the Senate.

They expressed their commitment to presenting a unified leadership after careful consideration.
