Patient burnt alive during surgery at St John of God Subiaco Hospital

A patient undergoing a routine operation suffered severe burns when the operating room caught fire.

The patient was undergoing a skin procedure at St John of God Subiaco Hospital near Perth’s central business district on Tuesday when the room caught fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and health officials have launched an immediate investigation.

Due to privacy laws, specific incident details have been withheld, but it was confirmed on Friday that the patient is being treated at Fiona Stanley Hospital, which has a specialized burns unit.

Their condition remains critical but stable.

It is unknown whether other people were injured in the fire.

Jenny Brenton, the acting chief executive officer of St John of God Subiaco Hospital, stated that a “serious incident” led to a “negative outcome for a patient.”

She said in a statement, “The patient has been transferred to a tertiary hospital for specialized care.”

‘We informed the patient’s family immediately following the incident, and we recognize that this is a difficult time for them.

We have begun a comprehensive investigation and analysis to determine the cause. As this situation evolves, we will continue to keep the patient and family informed.

Due to privacy laws, we are unable to comment further on the circumstances and specifics.
