Palestinians: Israeli army raid murdered juvenile girl

According to Palestinian authorities, an Israeli army operation early on Monday in the occupied West Bank resulted in the death of a teenage girl. Jana Zakaran, 16, was shot in the head and declared dead at Khalil Suleiman Government Hospital in Jenin, a city in northern Israel.
After the Israeli forces left Jenin, Zakaran’s family spent an hour looking for her before discovering her dead on their home’s roof, according to the official Palestinian news agency.

The Israeli military claimed to be aware of the teen’s passing and to be conducting an inquiry. Troops invaded the city, it was stated, and detained three Palestinians sought for alleged assaults on Israelis.

It said that there were clashes and a significant exchange of gunfire between the troops and the accused. The military reportedly said that twelve more Palestinians were detained in other midnight operations in the West Bank.

Three other Palestinians were reportedly injured by Israeli forces during the operation in Jenin, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.

This year has seen the bloodiest conflict between Israelis and Palestinians since 2006, with almost 150 Palestinians murdered in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

The majority of Palestinians slain, according to the Israeli army, were militants. However, adolescents hurling stones in retaliation for Israeli army incursions as well as unrelated individuals have also been slain.
In response to a wave of deadly Palestinian assaults on Israelis in the spring, Israel has started conducting daily arrest sweeps across the West Bank. According to Israeli statistics, Arab assaults in Israel and the occupied West Bank have claimed the lives of at least 31 individuals this year.

The military claims the operations are intended to break up terrorist networks and prevent such assaults, but the Palestinians claim they solidify Israel’s ongoing occupation, which has been going on for 56 years.

In the meanwhile, a new administration in Israel is about to enter office and might deal with the Palestinians considerably more aggressively. Following an election victory that was primarily attributed to his collaboration with far-right political groups, former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is presently trying to put together a governing coalition.

With certain members of extreme-right, anti-Arab, anti-LGBTQ, and ultra-Orthodox Jewish groups already nominated for prominent cabinet seats, he is anticipated to have the partnerships necessary to establish a new government in the coming days.
