Overnight, seasonal rains killed scores in Afghanistan and Pakistan

Numerous fatalities occurred overnight as a result of severe floods brought on by seasonal rains in eastern Afghanistan and nearby areas of Pakistan, according to local authorities on Sunday.

Villagers were seen cleaning up after the floods in the Khushi district of Logar province, which is south of Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital. Their destroyed houses were in a mess.

The number of people killed and wounded by the rising floods are yet unclear, according to Abdullah Mufaker, chairman of the province’s natural disaster response body, although there were at least nine deaths.

He said that “the precise number is not apparent at this moment, and the folks have gone to collect the dead corpses.”

Del Agha, a local elder, said that the flooding was unheard of in Khushi history.

He said that the disaster “destroyed all the people’s livestock, homes, and agricultural fields.”

People have been forced to seek sanctuary in the mountains because they are homeless.

According to the nation’s natural disaster management agency, floods brought on by the monsoon rains killed at least 36 people in neighbouring Pakistan, including 11 in districts bordering Afghanistan.

Thousands of marooned individuals have been rescued by military-backed rescue teams, and more rain is predicted for Pakistan this week.

During the months of July through September, there are monsoons.

Heavy rains last week sparked flash floods in northern Afghanistan that claimed the lives of at least 31 people and left scores missing.
