According to sources, the police are investigating a shooting that occurred near the Upper Manhattan residence of First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and Schools Chancellor David Banks. Fortunately, neither of them was harmed during the 4:15 a.m. incident, and it is believed that they were not the intended targets. Police sources added that a shell casing was found a block away from the house near the intersection of West 143rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue. They also reported that they have taken a “person of interest” into custody.
Wright, who is 52 years old, heard the gunshots and informed her security detail, who subsequently notified the NYPD. The incident was captured on cameras installed at the residence, which is believed to be shared by the chancellor.
The sources mentioned that no injuries or property damage were reported. The NYPD has not yet released any official information regarding the incident.
