Oprah Winfrey ‘didn’t go out to do a bombshell interview’ with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

In a new interview with Gayle King, Oprah Winfrey reflected about her 2021 interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

On Thursday, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were unexpectedly reunited with the royal family. On Saturday, the couple appeared with the new Prince and Princess of Wales, marking the first time in years that Prince William, Princess Kate, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle were publicly united.

Since they stood down as senior members of the royal family in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with Harry’s family has been tense, and their March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey only served to further separate them from the monarchy.

In the 2021 interview, the couple claimed that royal family members made racial jokes about Archie, that the firm ignored Markle’s mental-health difficulties, that Kate Middleton made Markle cry during the week of her wedding, and that Charles cut the couple off financially after their step back.

Winfrey told King on Monday’s CBS Mornings that she had no intention of obtaining surprising information from the duke and duchess.

Winfrey stated, “I was as shocked by the bombshell as everyone else.” “I was conducting an interview to give them a platform to explain why they departed.”

Winfrey noted that she was astonished by some of the facts Harry and Markle disclosed with her, but she “didn’t intend to conduct a bombshell interview.”

King then asked Winfrey if she believes Prince Harry and Prince William can reconcile following the passing of the Queen. Winfrey said, “I do not intervene in the family affairs of others.”

“Everyone who has experienced family conflicts with in-laws, siblings, or cousins understands how terrible these circumstances can be, and I’m sure the royal family is no exception,” she said. Nobody consults me about their family business, so I try not to become involved.

Winfrey’s remarks to King are markedly different from those she made to Extra’s Jenn Lahmers at the Toronto Film Festival in response to Lahmers’ question as to whether the Queen’s passing may unite the royal family.

Winfrey told Lahmers, “Well, this is what I believe, I believe that when all families gather for a common rite, the ritual of, you know, burying your dead, there is an opportunity for peacemaking.” “And hopefully that will occur.”

In addition to their walkabout at Windsor Castle, Harry and Markle have had cordial interactions with the royal family after the death of Queen Elizabeth.

In his first public address after becoming king, Charles III expressed his affection for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Harry “honored” his father as the new monarch in the statement he delivered on Monday.
