The assassination of a KwaZulu-Natal school principal in a hail of gunfire has sent shockwaves through the community, education officials, and parents.

On Thursday, Sipho Nkosi, the principal of Bright Future Special School in Durban, was ambushed while driving his SUV on the N3 motorway.

Siqiniseko Shezi, a spokesperson for the department of education in KwaZulu-Natal, stated that the agency is aware that the police are investigating the murder of Nkosi but has not received any information detailing the motive for the killing.

Thursday around 1.30 p.m., according to Kyle van Reenen, a spokeswoman for Emer-G-Med, paramedics arrived to the scene of the gunshot near Sherwood on the N3.

“Upon arrival, a Mercedes-Benz was discovered riddled with high-caliber gunshot holes. “Upon arrival of paramedics, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a male roughly 40 years old, was found to have fatal injuries and pronounced dead,” Van Reenen added.

The South African Police Services were there and will conduct an inquiry in accordance with the situation.

Buhle Zotha, a parent of one of the school’s students, responded to the news on social media: “My son’s principal. It is truly incredibly sad. I cannot fathom the suffering the family is experiencing at this time.”

Elijah Mhlanga, a spokesperson for Basic Education, offered a heartfelt homage to the deceased headmaster.

“In April, a few days after the floods that devastated his school, he cleaned the vases that survived the devastation and handed them to me while I was a student at his school. This afternoon, Sipho Nkosi, the principal of Bright Future Special School in Durban, was murdered. Brother, rest in peace,” Mhlanga wrote on social media.
