Obsessive driving teacher sentenced for visiting 17-year-old student with Stanley Blades

After violating a restraining order and showing up to his 17-year-old student’s house with Stanley Blades, an obsessive driving teacher who had been stalking her for months was eventually sentenced to prison.

Between July and October of last year, Graham Mansie, 53, stalked Maisie Relph, now 19 years old, for a total of four months.

He pretended to be a male first-year student on WhatsApp, made the TikTok account “For Maisie,” which had the bio “my favourite” and a red heart emoji. He then invited her out for drinks and lavished her with unwanted presents.

In an attempt to bribe criminals on the dark web to access her social media accounts, he lost hundreds of pounds, and the adolescent now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The police urged Maisie to modify how she appeared while Mansie was out on bail, so she changed her outfit and chopped her hair into a bob.

The student said that as a result of the event, she is now unable to go out by herself and that the stress of being followed is what caused her to be diagnosed with severe anorexia.

Mansie, a resident of Beckenham in south-east London, pled guilty to one count of stalking and was sentenced in May of this year to an eight-week prison term with a one-year suspension.

However, the stalker travelled 220 miles to York nine days later, according to evidence presented in court today.

Before showing up outside her house, he had already twice violated his release terms by messaging her on WhatsApp and Instagram, the court was informed.

When Maisie’s roommate arrived from work at approximately 11 p.m., Mansie was allegedly found rocking on the grass underneath her window.

Security was summoned by the terrified pupils, who discovered cuts on his wrists. Stanley blades were turned up by Mansie, and the police allegedly discovered further blades.

Today at York Crown Court, Mansie was eventually sentenced to 20 months in prison.

He received concurrent sentences of 16 months for violating a restraining order, two months for having blades in his possession, and the activation of his two-month suspended sentence.

Speaking immediately before the verdict, Maisie expressed her concern that he would use the knives to either coerce her into coming with him or to sexually abuse her.

South-east London resident Maisie, a psychology in education student, said: “It was awful—a complete nightmare.” My nine days of independence were all I had.

I thought he wouldn’t violate the restraining order, but apparently I was mistaken.

“I was all for rehabilitation previously, but he’s demonstrated that he needs to be in jail because being outside is just not safe for me, my friends, or him,” the woman said.

My flatmates said that throughout those nine days, I changed drastically since I was so relaxed and happy.

“I honestly believed I had my life back, but everything started to go wrong again.”

“This whole circumstance has made me very wary.” I am unable to leave alone any longer.

In July 2020, Maisie signed up for 10 classes with Mansie, a teacher from Beckenham in south-east London, although she ultimately had 32.

Mansie, who is 33 years older than the sixth-grader, taught around 15 of her classmates, all of whom praised him after passing their exams.

She adds that after a short while, he began referring to her as his “favourite,” asked her out for drinks, and spent the most of the two-hour classes talking about his desire to be in a committed relationship.

According to one of her friends, he kept telling them he had a pupil he wanted to become close to.

On May 18, Mansie was sentenced to an eight-week prison term with a one-year suspension at Bromley Magistrates’ Court. She was also ordered to do 30 days of community service and attend counselling at the Stalking Threat Assessment Center.

He had allegedly previously twice violated his release terms by messaging her on WhatsApp and Instagram.

On May 27, he then showed up in front of her York apartment, the court heard on Wednesday.

In her testimony in court, Masie indicated that the crime had a negative emotional and psychological effect on her.

The student said that she was receiving counselling and that the stress of being followed caused her to be diagnosed with severe anorexia.

I continually worry and am nervous about what may occur, she added, reflecting on what had transpired.

After the prior instances, I really believed that things could not get much worse. But nine days after his punishment, Mr. Mansie violates a court order, which makes me wonder whether this will ever stop.

She said he was “obsessed,” and her astonishment at his driving from south London.

The psychology student said in court, “I am now a 19-year-old who is facing a terrible mental condition and having to live with a 53-year-old stalker, while attempting to acquire a degree.”

The court heard that during his police interview, Maisie was unable to respond to any of the questions but instead read from a prepared statement in which he expressed his desire to commit suicide as a result of the first case’s social media coverage.

As soon as she seen him sitting there, rocking back and forth while sobbing, she knew it was him. He must be in dire health.

“I have a mental picture of him.” Sadly, I can’t seem to forget.

“I could recognise him anywhere because of his hair and his Arsenal football shirt.”

I’ve considered renaming myself and even moving to Australia.

Although I love my life and don’t want to alter it, I can’t let everything revolve around him. I don’t want to do that.

I also believe that he will find me if he wants to.

“I have post-traumatic stress from this,” you say.

Even though he has been in detention since May, “Every time I see a red Ford Fiesta or someone in a football jersey I fear.”

It’s difficult to put into words how dreadful it is to wonder when this will stop.

Theoretically, because he is 53, this could go on for at least another 20 years.
