A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member named Adebola Sodiq has been apprehended by the police in Ogun State for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman.
The arrest was made following a report filed by the victim, and the suspect was paraded at the Owode Egba divisional headquarters.
The Deceptive Encounter:
The victim, who lived in an apartment with her co-workers, was approached by the suspect on May 9, 2023.
As the suspect was the boyfriend of one of her close friends, she did not suspect any ill intentions.
He requested her company to buy a gift to commemorate her recent birthday and asked her to accompany him to the village junction.
Unaware of his ulterior motives, she agreed.
The Forceful Act:
While on their way, the suspect deviated from the plan and led the victim to the premises of the school where he was serving.
He claimed he needed to pick up his wallet.
However, upon reaching his room, he forcefully dragged her inside and proceeded to have non-consensual sexual intercourse with her.
Despite her pleas and cries for mercy, he did not relent.
Arrest and Confession:
The victim reported the incident to the police, prompting the DPO Owode Egba division to dispatch detectives to apprehend the suspect.
Upon interrogation, Sodiq confessed to committing the crime but claimed he was not aware of his actions at the time.
The victim received medical treatment at Owode Egba general hospital as directed by the police.
Further Investigation and Prosecution:
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Oladimeji, has instructed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and potential prosecution.
