Northumbria Police request public’s help in identifying man linked to South Shields pub altercation

Northumbria Police has asked for public assistance in finding a suspect in connection with an affray in South Shields, South Tyneside.

In a Facebook post, the police have released an image of a man they want to speak to regarding the incident.

However, social media users have pointed out that the man in the image bears a striking resemblance to former England footballer and current DC United coach Wayne Rooney.

The police stated that they were alerted to an altercation that took place inside a pub on Prince Edward Road on December 30, 2022, and that they had already left the scene by the time the officers arrived.

No injuries were reported to the police, and a 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and subsequently released on bail pending further inquiries.

The police have issued the image of the man they want to speak to as part of their investigation.

They believe that he was in the area at the time of the incident and could provide useful information to assist with the investigation.

The police have asked anyone who recognizes the man or has information about him to contact them through the “Tell Us Something” page on their website, quoting crime reference number 152847L/22.

Although the image is not clear, social media users have found it amusing that the man bears such a striking resemblance to Wayne Rooney, with some users making jokes about the former footballer.

The police have not commented on the likeness and are solely focused on finding the person in the image to assist with their investigation.
