North Macedonia has provided shelter, education, and health treatment for Afghans

Recently, a family of 13 Afghan citizens who worked for NATO came in Greece. While they awaited permanent resettlement, they were temporarily sheltered by North Macedonia. For those Afghans, North Macedonia has provided shelter, education, and health treatment, as well as support throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

“Greece is delighted to welcome the family of 13 Afghan residents who worked for NATO on Greek soil. Following the events of last year, Greece now accommodates approximately 800 Afghans, including women, judges, public officials, and their families.

This latest resettlement is a monument to Greece’s unwavering commitment to keeping its international obligations and serving lofty humanitarian principles and values, all while adhering to international law.

We appreciate everyone who helped us in our efforts” according to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Around 2,000 Afghans who worked with NATO and their families were evacuated from Kabul in August as part of the greatest evacuation mission in NATO history, thanks to the efforts of allies.

NATO allies and partners are continuing to collaborate to assist Afghans who have been evacuated in their transition to a new life. Over 470 former Afghan employees and their families have moved in Canada, 150 in the United Kingdom, more than 130 in Germany, 80 in Norway, and hundreds more in other Allied countries in recent weeks and months.
