Labour Unions Dispel False Strike Notice

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) joined forces to refute a widely circulating notice purporting an impending nationwide strike, slated to commence on Monday, December 18, 2023.

Official Statement Denounces False Claims

The NLC’s head of information and public affairs, Benson Upah, released a statement in Abuja, debunking the strike notice. According to Mr. Upah, the notice purportedly signed by the NLC’s General Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, and the TUC’s Secretary General, Comrade Nuhu Toro, is categorically false.

No Intention of Initiating Strike Action

Emphasizing the stance of the labour unions, Mr. Upah assured Nigerians that no such notice originated from their official channels. He underscored that neither the NLC nor the TUC had any plans to commence strike action during the mentioned period.

Urging Public Disregard for the Fake Notice

Mr. Upah urged citizens to dismiss the circulated notice as fake news. He reiterated the unions’ commitment to dispelling misinformation and affirmed their dedication to authentic communication regarding any future industrial actions.
