Nick Martin’s assassin begs leniency for smearing accused mastermind David Pye

Nick Martin’s assassin begs leniency for smearing accused mastermind David Pye

In exchange for volunteering to testify against the suspected architect of the assassination, the assassin who assassinated an ex-boss of the Rebels motorcycle gang has asked to be freed from prison earlier than expected.

After providing authorities with information and promising to testify against David James Pye, the guy who is accused of planning the 2020 attack, the former military sniper—whose name is being withheld for legal reasons—avoided a life sentence.

For his cooperation, he was given a reduced term in 2021 of 20 years in prison.

Pye allegedly made the $150,000 offer to the assassin to kill former Rebels boss Nick Martin while he and his family were watching drag races at the Kwinana Motorplex in the south of Perth.

Nevertheless, if the Court of Appeal confirms his motion and resentences him, his attempt to further reduce his sentence might backfire.

The 36-year-old shooter contends that because of his cooperation with police, his sentence should have been reduced during his appeal.

Simon Freitag SC, the man’s attorney, was told by Justice Michael Buss that if the court were to resentence his client, a life sentence would not be unreasonable and a new minimum parole term might be established.

Mr. Freitag maintained that the thorough witness testimony provided by his client, which resulted in Pye’s arrest, was not taken into consideration when Pye’s sentence was determined.

He said that in addition to providing information about Pye, his client also allegedly offered to assassinate Pye’s rival Ray Cilli, the head of Comanchero.

Moreover, Mr. Freitag said that his client gave information of another alleged murderous plot by Pye against a lady and that Pye had urged him to get a rocket-propelled grenade to use against a police aircraft.

In court on Wednesday, Pye entered a not-guilty plea to many murder-related accusations.

According to allegations, Pye, a former Rebels member who later developed ties to the Comancheros gang, planned and funded Martin’s alleged sniper-style shooting.

Early in 2020, Pye is said to have gotten in touch with the 35-year-old guy using the secure messaging app Wire and inquired about his background and abilities.

Martin was the target of monitoring by the assassin, which even included flying a drone over his house.

The contract assassin said that the plan for Cilli was to shower him with machine gun fire as he exited a pub in Thailand.
