NHS bosses defy ‘woke’ jobs restriction, advertising diversity opportunities two months later

Two months after the prohibition on ‘woke’ jobs, the NHS is still advertising well-paid ‘equality, diversity, and inclusion’ positions.

In June, former Health Secretary Sajid Javid stated that the NHS has too many diversity positions.

However, NHS administrators continue to advertise a dozen such well-paid positions.
The 12 positions will cost between £474,236 and £540,836 each year.

NHS administrators are advertising a dozen well-compensated ‘equality, diversity, and inclusion’ roles, more than two months after being instructed to cease hiring for ‘woke’ positions.

At the beginning of June, the then-Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, issued a scathing rebuke to NHS leadership, stating that there were “too many working in roles focused entirely on diversity and inclusion” and that “every penny must be spent on patients’ priorities.”

There are now 12 ‘ED&I’ positions posted on the main NHS jobs page, all of which were posted within the last month.

There are three positions with wages that can exceed £60,000, while eight pay at least $40,000. The 12 positions will cost between £474,236 and £540,836 each year.

Some of the offered positions serve predominantly white neighborhoods.

They include the position of “Head of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion” at the St. Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, located on the suburbs of Liverpool, which will pay between £56,164 and £65,262.

The current annual report of the trust, which serves 360,000 people in a mostly white working-class area, adds, “Our areas are not racially diverse but have substantial levels of disadvantage.”

The Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, which offers mental health and disability services in the North East, is seeking a “Involvement and Lived Experience Diversity Officer” for a position with a maximum salary of £40,580.

The organization wishes to cultivate a workforce that is “inclusive, equitable, and reflective of our communities, including race, religion, sexual orientation, age, and disability”

The North East is the least ethnically diverse region in England, with 95.3% of the population identifying as white.

James Duncan, chief executive officer of CNTW, stated, “This position will reach out to communities across the trust to guarantee inclusivity and participation from all of the communities we serve.”

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an ED&I Engagement Coordinator with a ‘passion for inclusion and diversity’ with a salary range of £32,306 to £39,006. Cornwall is almost entirely white.

St Helens & Knowsley and Cornwall Partnership remained silent.
