New Orleans Saints tight end, Jimmy Graham, was arrested on the night of August 18, 2023, after what his team describes as a “likely seizure” left him disoriented and wandering the streets.
The incident occurred in southern California, where Graham was found acting erratically near a resort.
According to reports by TMZ, the 36-year-old NFL star was taken into custody on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
When police attempted to detain him, he reportedly resisted arrest, leading to additional charges of resisting, delaying, and obstructing a police officer.
The Saints issued a statement to Mail Sport, explaining that Graham had experienced a medical episode that resulted in his disorientation. Dr. John Amoss, who attended to Graham, suggested that the incident was likely a seizure.
Graham spent the night under medical supervision and testing at a local hospital.
He was released the following morning and rejoined the team as they continued preparations for an upcoming preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Graham’s recent arrest and reported medical issues have raised concerns about his high-profile return to the Saints this offseason.
Having previously played for the team from 2010 to 2014, Graham’s comeback had been eagerly anticipated.
He had a brief hiatus from the NFL in 2022 following the end of his contract with the Chicago Bears.
In May 2023, he also endured a cycling accident that resulted in a calf laceration requiring stitches, but it did not deter his determination to return to the field.
