The New York Knicks finally saw Quentin Grimes break out of his shooting slump with his best offensive performance in weeks.
The second-year guard scored 22 points and sank six 3-pointers in the Knicks’ 142-118 win against the Brooklyn Nets at a sold-out Garden.
Coach Tom Thibodeau credited Julius Randle for enabling Grimes to get into the game and find a good rhythm.
Grimes hit three 3-pointers in the opening quarter and never cooled off, boosting his confidence with the most triples he had scored since hitting seven in a December loss to the Mavericks.
Grimes had struggled from 3-point range before the All-Star break, but he had been finding his stroke, hitting 5 of 12 from a distance in the three previous games.
With Derrick Rose still on the team and contributing in a big way, the Knicks seem to have a solid roster for the rest of the season.
Rose is no longer eligible for the playoffs if he received a buyout and wanted to join a different team.
Still, Thibodeau emphasized Rose’s positive impact on the team, saying he always lifted people.
In other news, Jalen Brunson wore a No. 88 Patrick Kane jersey, a nod to the newest Ranger, whom he has respected for a long time.
Meanwhile, Knicks rookie Trevor Keels scored his first career points with a 3-pointer in the final seconds of mop-up duty. Keels was the team’s second-round pick out of Duke.
